Short Christmas Story

Hey everyone, I wrote a short story that gives a quick glimpse of the Phoenix Pack on Christmas Eve. It centers around Dante and Jaime, but it features the rest of the pack. If you'd like to take a look, read on.

Two steps into the bedroom, Dante stumbled over something and almost fell flat on his face. Glancing down, he wasn’t surprised to find a stray shoe. “Jaime!” From her spot on the floor amidst rolls of wrapping paper, tags, ribbons, and a pile of gift-wrapped boxes, she lifted her head and presented him with a bright smile that always hit him straight in the gut. Ignoring the sensation, he glowered. “Do you want me to fall and break my neck, is that it?”

Cocking her head at her mate – and inwardly laughing her ass off – Jaime replied, “I’ve thought about it.” When he picked up her shoe and pointed it at her, she sensed a lecture coming. “Lay off, Popeye. I’ve been using the shoe rack.”

“Yeah, to put CDs on.” He gestured at the sporadically placed shoes. In honesty, the mess bothered him more than repeatedly tripping over. “Why do you have to scatter them everywhere?”

“Think of it as a test of your coordination and balance.”

Jaime!

“Stop obsessing over it.” Smiling again, she jumped to her feet. “That’s everything wrapped. You’re just in time to help me move it all.”

Fully intending to spank her ass later, Dante helped her carry the gifts through the network of tunnels. In the living area, most of the pack was seated on the large sectional sofa, watching The Grinch. Taryn was playing on the floor with baby Kye while Trey was stood frowning at the tree, telling Ryan, “I just don’t understand the purpose of it.” He had been whining about the decorations for weeks.

Having positioned the gifts under the tree, Jaime stood upright to find that Dominic had come to her side, wearing a flirtatious grin and holding mistletoe over her head. “Oh for God’s sake.”

Dominic just laughed when Dante snatched it. “All I want for Christmas is you, Jaime.”

Dante sighed. “Dom, don’t make me hurt you. Again.”

Dominic ignored him. “Come on, Jaime, would you really deprive me – your favorite person ever – of the thing I want most?”

“Yes, yes, I would.”

“How could you be so selfish and¾? Ow!” Rubbing the back of his head, he scowled at Dante. “Now that was uncalled for.”

Rolling her eyes, Jaime turned away from them and noticed that Kye had crawled to Ryan and was tugging on the leg of his jeans. The little guy had taken an extreme liking to the enforcer. Looking awkward, Ryan reached down, gripped the back of Kye’s sweater, and lifted him. Blowing bubbles, Kye grabbed Ryan’s nose. Wincing, Ryan tried handing the baby to Trey, but Kye wasn’t prepared to release his new toy.

Taryn laughed. “He has a soft spot for you, Ryan.”

Greta huffed at Taryn and gestured at the fairy lights decorating the room. “Is all this really necessary? I’m starting to get a migraine from all the twinkling.”

Taryn smiled sweetly. “I suppose if you’ve lived to see over three hundred Christmas days come and go, it’s hard to get excited anymore. On another note, did you remember to put wrinkle cream on your list?”

“Why does it have to be me?” Tao’s whine had everyone’s head swiveling. Dressed as Santa, he was shoved into the room by Trick and Marcus.

Trick looked at him impatiently. “Stop moaning! It’s for Kye. It’s his first Christmas.”

Marcus nodded, chewing on a cookie. “Yeah, now go and do…whatever Santas do.”

With a long suffering sigh, Tao made his way to Kye. But no matter how much Tao fussed over him, the kid just frowned a very Alpha-like frown at him, totally unimpressed. Then he grabbed Tao’s nose and pinched hard.

Tao jerked backwards. “Ow! I’ll swear he just grunted.”

Dante turned to Jaime, only to find that she was bending over and adjusting the position of a bauble. And that was when he noticed it. His whole body tightened. The second she was upright, he cupped her elbow and whispered into her ear, “We need to be alone now.

Confused and curious, Jaime allowed him to lead her out of the living area. It was quickly apparent that he was leading her to their bedroom. Once they were inside, he slammed the door closed, pushed her up against it, and swerved her around. “What the¾

Lifting up her t-shirt and jerking her jeans down slightly, Dante released a low groan and ran his finger along the white fur that lined his mate’s panties. Ignoring her indignant huffs and slapping hands, he stripped her down to her underwear in seconds and then twisted her to face him. He raked his gaze over her, feeling his mouth dry up at the sight of her in the red lacy, fur-lined underwear. “Damn.”

“It was supposed to be a surprise for later,” she grumbled.

“I think you should reward me for being a good boy this year and let me unwrap you early.” He pulled her against him and nipped her neck.

She snorted. “A good boy? Considering the things you do to me in that bed, you must be constantly on the naughty list. But don’t worry – ‘nice’ bores me.”

“Glad to hear it, since you’re stuck with me. Even though I suspect you’re trying to break my neck, I’m keeping you.”

Jaime locked her arms around his neck. “And even though you’re a total neat freak who likes to control everything around him, I’m keeping you.”

He smiled against her mouth. “That’s good, because I intend to love you and irritate you for the rest of our lives.” He kissed her. “I say we don’t leave this room again until morning. After all, it’s important to celebrate our first Christmas as a mated couple in style.”

“In style, huh. I can go with that.”

“But first…” His expression turned pained. “Do you think you could put all your shoes on the rack?”

“Oh for the love of all that’s¾! Therapy, you need therapy!”

Halloween Fun

Please check this out!

Over 50 authors have participated in this tour and I've had great fun taking part! There is a fabulous prize giveaway, and the grand prize is a Kindle 7'' HD Fire 100 books.

As part of the tour, a joint interview featuring Taryn, Trey, Sam and Jared together will be posted on 20th October. Alli from Ali's Book Jungle was great to work with and we had lots of fun doing it. There'll also be an author interview and a small excerpt from 'Carnal Secrets: The Phoenix Pack Series, Book Three'.

Also, an 28th October, a short Halloween scene taking place on Phoenix Pack territory will be posted on the Reading Between the Wines book club blog. It's always great fun writing about the Phoenix wolves. Trey, Taryn, Jaime, Dante, Kye, Marcus, and Greta are most prominent in the scene.

Hope you can all check it out!

Carnal Secrets Cover Reveal

At last we have it!

Here is the cover for the third installment of The Phoenix Pack series! For anyone who hasn't already read the synopsis, I'll include it here. The release date February 11, 2014 still seems so far away, but it will most likely fly by.

A pack Alpha and his estranged, true mate wrestle with painful secrets, ruthless enemies, and their own irresistible attraction, in the sexy third book of the Phoenix Pack series.

Half-shifter Shaya Critchley may hold a submissive role in her pack, but she’s done taking orders. After her Alpha wolf mate refused to claim her—but committed to interfering in her life—she took off. Now she hides from him, posing as a human in a town full of anti-shifter extremist groups. She thinks he’ll never find her again, and that suits her just fine. But she’s wrong.

Nick Axton can barely control his feelings for Shaya, but he could never claim her—not if he truly cares for her. The degenerative brain condition he keeps secret would ultimately leave her with a burden rather than a mate. But when Shaya runs away, Nick can’t bear the thought of never seeing her again. After tracking her down, he discovers Shaya’s feisty and passionate side in the process…a side he’d never seen before.

Under the menacing gazes of territorial local packs and violent human extremists, Nick vows to finally claim the spirited Shaya…and despite her initial resistance, Shaya just might find his fiery determination to be the ultimate aphrodisiac.

The book is available now for pre-order on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Carnal-Secrets-Phoenix-Pack-ebook/dp/B00E8PUYEU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1380701857&sr=8-1&keywords=carnal+secrets

Now I need to get back to Sam and Jared - I'm currently working on the third in The Deep in Your Veins series.

Take care everyone!

Calling all fans of the Phoenix Pack...

Hey everyone, hope you're all doing great. I finally got the go-ahead from the marketing team to release the synopsis for 'Carnal Secrets', the third book of the Phoenix Pack series (yay!) which will be released Feb 11, 2014. The cover should also be coming in a few weeks and I absolutely can't bloody wait. Once I have it, I'll put it up here. Anyway...here's the synopsis, enjoy:

A pack Alpha and his estranged, true mate wrestle with painful secrets, ruthless enemies, and their own irresistible attraction, in the sexy third book of the Phoenix Pack series.

Half-shifter Shaya Critchley may hold a submissive role in her pack, but she’s done taking orders. Big News

Hi everyone!

I'm happy to tell you that book 3 of the Phoenix Pack series has been given an official release date: February 11, 2014. Although it was originally titled 'Tremors of Need', my Editor and I discussed changing it to a two-word title to match 'Feral Sins' and 'Wicked Cravings'. The new title is 'Carnal Secrets'...and I'm so bloody excited. For those of you who have expressed an interest in pre-ordering it, here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Carnal-Secrets-Phoenix-Series-ebook/dp/B00E8PUYEU/ref=sr_1_2?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1375697379&sr=1-2&keywords=carnal+secrets. There is no book cover just yet, but it will be coming soon.

I'll continue putting teaser quotes from 'Carnal Secrets' on Twitter https://twitter.com/suz_wright and on my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Suzanne-Wright/1392617144284756

Also, 'From Rags' has been officially updated on Amazon so that it is free of grammatical errors. It means that anyone who bought it prior to the update may be contacted by Amazon to ask if they would like to have their version updated. If you don't hear from Amazon, feel free to contact them about it. I've also edited the cover slightly to make the title clearer.

In addition, 'From Rags' will be available in paperback format very, very soon on both Createspace and Amazon. I currently have the sample in front of me to read through and proof. It's going to be a long but very fun day.
Take care everyone!

Just A Little Advice...

Hi everyone! I often receive emails from writers who are interested in self-publishing and have questions or concerns - particularly on copyright issues. It's always a pleasure to hear from other writes and avid readers, and I always aim to answer those emails as best I can. This is why I felt it necessary to write this particular post and to create awareness.

Thanks to a fan of Feral Sins, I recently discovered that someone had copied my work on an e-book community for writers and publishers to share their work. As you can imagine and understand, it was a very upsetting situation. There is a difference between FanFiction and copying someone's work, and this situation was certainly the latter.

After receiving notification of this by both myself and my publisher, the website instantly removed the copied text and apologized for the inconvenience caused - of course I would never blame the website; they're not responsible for what other people post and they trust their members to follow their terms of service. However, I felt I had to make this post to make other self-published authors or aspiring authors aware of this type of thing. I would never have thought to check any such websites for infringements, and had someone not found it, I would most likely never have known. It may be worth some of you checking for any infringements on your own work on such websites, just to be sure. Us writers should look one out for another.

I haven't named the infringer as although I'm upset and can be a bitch from time to time, I'm not bitter and cruel. I have a feeling that being contacted over this and having the text removed was shocking enough for them - after all, they clearly thought they would get away with it or never would have done it. Hopefully this discourages them from doing it in the future.

Thank you once again to the fan of Feral Sins who discovered the copyright infringement and contacted me about it. I'm your devoted friend for life...but not in a creepy way.

On a lighter note: I've finished the third book in the Phoenix Pack series. Unfortunately, it still won't be released until next year as publishing can be a long process, but it's done and I can now move on to the third book of the Deep In Your Veins series.

Take care everyone!

Just To Let You All Know...

Hi everyone,

For the next two weeks, I won't be able to answer e-mails or inquiries as I'll be in Florida on a family holiday  - yay! I feel it's not fair to my family if I spend my time working, e-mailing, blogging, or tweeting. Besides, if I'm honest, I'll be surviving on adrenalin after going on all the Disney rides. If you do get in touch during that time, I will get around to responding, but it will be a little while. I'll be busy going on rides and crisping in the sun as, sadly, I never tan. I just burn, peel, and go back to being freakishly pale. It's so not fair. What's worse is that whereas some people suit having milk-bottle-white skin, I don't. I just look ill. How special. If there's a secret to tanning, please tell me what it is. My hub says it's sex. Typical.

You know, considering my son's going on holiday tomorrow, you would think he'd be in a fabulous mood. He was a grumpy bugger this morning. I said to him - dozy though I am, I can impart wisdom on my kids from time to time - that he should try looking at what he has got instead of what he hasn't got; that if he didn't learn to do that, he would walk through life being unhappy. After five or so minutes, he said, "You know what, Mum? You're right. I'm lucky, aren't I? I've got a family that love me. I've got my friends. I've got a house, and I've got lots of toys and DVDs. And best of all, the HMV store near us is staying open!"

Can you believe that? Unreal. Children's priorities can be a little warped, can't they?

Take care everyone! If any of you will be in Florida at the same time, I may see you there. You'll easily recognize me - just look for the small redhead (yes, I dyed my hair ruby-red) who's burnt and blistered and hyped on adrenalin.

Just Want to Say Thanks!

I've had some really amazing comments, tweets, emails, and reviews from people about 'Wicked Cravings' and I just want to say thank you all so much! I wanted to write this post yesterday but then my seven year old son told me he'd written a book and wanted me to read it and asked if we could design a book cover together. Oh he's too sweet, seriously. We had a laugh doing the cover and, God, I wish I had his imagination. Of course he also reminded me he could be a mischievous little sod by trying to tempt his little sister with dog biscuits - she wasn't buying for even a second that they were normal biscuits. In truth, I don't think he truly would have let her eat one, but still...

Anyway, really big thanks to all those people - you know who you are! I haven't stopped smiling for three days. I could give Barbie a run for her money. It's surprising my jaw isn't sore. That didn't sound right, did it...To any filthy minded people out there - like me, yes - it really didn't sound right. Honestly sometimes I think I should just build a house on a gutter because my mind's permanently there.

Also, big thanks to Melannie White for all her help with the blog tour! She's seriously one of the most put-together, organized people I know. I truly envy her for her organizational skills. I'm crap like that. And congratulations again to all the giveaway winners.

I've had some people asking about book three of the Phoenix Pack series. Book three, 'Tremors of Need' will be released in 2014 and centers around Nick and Shaya. I don't have an exact date yet, sorry. If anyone wants to be added to my mailing list so that they're notified when it's due to be released, send me an email at: suzanne_e_wright@live.co.uk

Take care everyone!

So Tired It's Not Even Funny, But Smiling

How can I not be smiling when I've finally got my cover for 'Wicked Cravings'? (see right) Love the new one for 'Feral Sins' too. Can't believe it's only ten more days before it's re-released! Having both of them on paperback will be even better for me. 'Here Be Sexist Vampires' is now available in paperback form in the Createspace store, and 'The Bite That Binds' will soon follow. They'll both also be available on paperback through Amazon very soon. So, yes, I'm smiling like a Barbie Doll. It's kind of annoying me really, but it just won't go.

I've had a lot of requests from people asking if I'll put up another excerpt of Wicked Cravings. So sorry, but I'm not allowed to - if I'm honest, that just makes me want to do it - but what I'll do is put the occasional quote from the book on Twitter (@suz_wright). There's one up now, actually. It's just one of the many feisty interactions between Dante and Jaime. What control freak wouldn't get a little frustrated with an incontrollable woman, and vice versa?

Now I have to go and eat. I'd like to say I'll eat dinner, but I'll probably end up just munching on a bag of Skittles. Judge me if you will.

Take care!

Need Some Advice From My Faithful Readers

I have a tiny dilemma. It turns out that there's another book with the title 'The Bite That Binds' - my sequel to 'Here Be Sexist Vampires'. I always check before giving a book a title, but for whatever reason I hadn't found this other book on any list when I checked.

(Don't worry; I've done a mental 'note to self: check more thoroughly next time'.)

Anyway, although it's not illegal to reuse a title unless it has been trademarked - which this book hasn't - the book also happens to be about vampires. I guess with having 'bite' in the title, it's hardly surprising. It doesn't really affect me, so I thought I'd ask if you, as readers, would find it confusing to find two vampire books with the same title. I could always change it slightly to 'Bites That Bind' or 'A Bite That Binds'...? Any input would be appreciated.

I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who bought TBTB, hope you all enjoyed it. I'm now working on the third instalment of the Phoenix Pack series, 'Tremors of Need', which centres around Shaya and Nick. I can't give any background to the story without leaving spoilers for 'Wicked Cravings' and I'd rather not do that. Not long left until WC is released. In fact, it's just eighteen more days until the re-release of 'Feral Sins'. It had once seemed so long away.

Take care everyone!

January's Releases

This has probably been one of the most hectic months of my life, but I'm still loving it. On 13th January - a year from the day that it was released - I'll be re-releasing 'Here Be Sexist Vampires'. Big thanks to Anna Campbell from 'a.g. Proof and Edit' for working on the book - you were a great help. Anyone needing a professional proofreader, let me recommend this company.

As you can see, HBSV also has a brand new and absolutely amazing book cover. I seriously can't thank Ruby José (twitter@Rubyjosem) enough for the beauitful covers that she did for both this book and the sequel, 'The Bite That Binds'. It's honestly like she reached into my brain and plucked out what was there, which perfectly illustrates just how fab she is at her job.

Ruby, you are one of the most talented people I have ever known, and I truly thank you for all the hard work you did and for taking the time out of your busy life to do these amazing covers for me.

Now...I don't know if Amazon still do this for the Kindle, but in the past whenever a book was re-edited, Amazon gave readers the option of updating the book to the new edition. So, if you have purchased HBSV, you may get contacted by Amazon this month. There's nothing terribly different about the new edition. It is simply that it has been worked on by a professional proofreader, and I have added new paragraphs here and there that I had cut out of the first edition.

Only a couple of weeks now until the second book, 'THE BITE THAT BINDS' is released. It's gone over so fast for me. Here's a brief synopsis:

It’s just over a week until Sam will be Binding with Jared, and the only thing she wants is to spend that time relaxing and preparing for the ceremony. Unfortunately, she seems to be asking too much of fate, because suddenly she’s lumbered with a number of distractions that have the potential to postpone, or even cancel, the Binding. There’s a guarded fiancé to crack, a complicated assignment to deal with, Jared’s ex to alienate, and a bunch of snobbish Master Vampires to win over – or offend, whichever. On the upside, things couldn’t possibly be any worse, could they?

Actually, yes they could. Due to a cruel twist of fate, something strange is happening to Sam –something that is changing her in ways she doesn’t like or understand. With the help of Jared and those closest to her, she has to not only handle the threats to the Binding Ceremony, but find a way to fix what has been done to her – and fast.

Warning: This book contains a stubborn and occasionally homicidal female vampire, a powerful and overprotective male vampire who refuses to lose her, and scenes of a sexual, explicit nature.

Lastly...if you want to read an excerpt of Wicked Cravings, you'll find what is pretty much half of the first chapter on my website: www.suzannewright.co.uk

Take care everyone,

Suzanne
